Brighteye Ventures is the leading and largest EdTech fund in Europe, investing in companies that help people learn and grow. Latsis has been the Managing Partner of Brighteye Advisors – the sole advisor to this Luxembourg-based venture capital fund – since 2017. The fund has invested in a number of prominent EdTech companies including Tandem, the leading language exchange platform in the world, Ornikar, Europe’s largest driving school, and Aula, a widely adopted learning management system used in UK and US higher education institutions. As Europe’s first and largest education technology venture capital fund, Brighteye Ventures closed its first EUR 50 million fund in 2017, and as of the end of 2020 had completed first close on it’s second fund at €45.5m for a target of €75m.

As well as giving a detailed overview of Brighteye Ventures, this blog will also give a more general overview of venture capital – offering an insight into what the future holds for the sector.

EdTech

Expert in EdTech

As an expert in EdTech, Alex Latsis has participated in many events and talks on the subject and frequently contributes writing and research to Brighteye Ventures Insights, offering his opinion and expertise on how EdTech can make learning more engaging and scalable. Among other topics this blog will share findings and conclusions from The European EdTech Funding Report 2020, as well as the role that EdTech can play in professional B2B coaching and mentoring solutions.

Alexander Spiro Latsis is also an investor in several successful start-ups; therefore, this blog will also include news that relates to these projects, such as Ornikar – the French start-up that has overtaken traditional driving schools in Europe and helps over 300,000 students per annum obtain their driving licenses. Ornikar raised $40 million thanks to investors that included Brighteye Ventures, and Banque Public D’Investissement (BPI) France’s Sovereign Wealth Fund.

Zen Educate

Zen Educate is another start-up company that Latsis, through Brighteye Ventures, has helped to establish and grow. The digital staffing platform closed a successful round of funding worth £5.6 million that was led by Brighteye Ventures, with participation from several other existing investors. Since its inception Zen has saved UK schools over 1m GBP in agency and placement fees through its innovative just in time platform.
